Comfortable accommodation and guided walking in the Wye Valley

Church Farm is situated on a quiet lane and is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the tranquillity of this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

We offer two self catering properties converted from the outbuildings of our 16th Century farmhouse perched above the Wye Valley on the edge of the historic village of St Briavels in the Forest of Dean. Our own property has five acres of glades and woods for you to explore and we are surrounded by farmland and forests with dozens of footpaths. There is a games barn with table tennis and table footlball, and a sunny courtyard to sit in. We offer Nordic walking tuition and guided walks through the local countryside, many of them from our front door.

We are within a two minute walk of The George pub which has good food and often hosts live music, and of the tiny village shop, The Pantry, which sells a large range of staples and local produce. The village also boasts a large recreation ground with well maintained playground (including zip wire!), outdoor gym, tennis court, table tennis and a cricket pitch.

Our properties

We have two properties available for rent, both situated around the historic former farmyard.

The Stables cottage has 2 bedrooms - a king and a twin and can sleep up to four people.

The Hayloft studio is a cosy space with a double bed and a kitchenette.

You can rent both spaces to sleep a group of up to six people. There is access between the two through our games barn without having to go outside.

The Wye Valley and Forest of Dean

St Briavels is at the centre of excellent walking country. There is a public footpath running through the lower part of the garden, which leads to a myriad of circular walks into the Wye Valley and the Severn Vale beyond through woods and fields. Offa's Dyke Path, the Wye Valley Walk, Gloucestershire Way and Wysis Way are all within walking distance from the door. It is a short drive to the magnificent Forest of Dean and lots of family attractions like Puzzlewood, Clearwell Caves, Perrygrove Railway and Tintern Abbey. There are also ample opportunities for outdoor activities like kayaking, canoeing and paddle-boarding on the River Wye, off-road cycling in the Forest and tree climbing at Go-Ape.

Most visitors come by car, as public transport is limited, with only occasional buses to and from Gloucester and Chepstow. Lydney train station is six miles away. The area is popular with cyclists, but be aware that we are 200m uphill from the river Wye.

NORDIC Walking

Melanie offers Nordic walking tuition for individuals or small groups from beginners to the experienced. This can be combined with guided walks taking in the beautiful surroundings.
