The Wye Valley and Forest of Dean
St Briavels is at the centre of excellent walking country. There is a public footpath running through the lower part of the garden, which leads to a myriad of circular walks into the Wye Valley and the Severn Vale beyond through woods and fields. Offa's Dyke Path, the Wye Valley Walk, Gloucestershire Way and Wysis Way are all within walking distance from the door. It is a short drive to the magnificent Forest of Dean and lots of family attractions like Puzzlewood, Clearwell Caves, Perrygrove Railway and Tintern Abbey. There are also ample opportunities for outdoor activities like kayaking, canoeing and paddle-boarding on the River Wye, off-road cycling in the Forest and tree climbing at Go-Ape.
Most visitors come by car, as public transport is limited, with only occasional buses to and from Gloucester and Chepstow. Lydney train station is six miles away. The area is popular with cyclists, but be aware that we are 200m uphill from the river Wye.
